ALBRIGHTON & DISTRICT CIVIC SOCIETY (ADCS)

(Albrighton, Boningale, Donington-with-Boscobel and Tong)

Congratulations to Margaret Brookes for her successful Campaign for a Better Bus Service
Margaret obtained 600 signatures to her petition and then contacted Arriva. The Society wrote to Arriva to support her request as did Albrighton PC. Arriva has replied to say that they are now re-routing their No. 10 service from Wolverhampton to Telford through Albrighton as Margaret asked. It is worth noting that Arriva say that they plan their routes to suit passenger numbers. So it will be important that to retain this service, fought for so well, that residents do use the Arriva bus. The old saying seems appropriate “Use or Lose it”.

Another Planning Application for the Development East of Shaw Lane
By the time you read this the deadline for comments/support/objection to a new Application by a second company, Jessup, will have passed. The Parish Council has asked for a month’s extension for comments as this is a major application making significant changes to what we all thought was on offer with the previous proposals by Boningale Homes which included additional car parking for the Station and also for the School ..........and as it “came out of the blue”.
The proposal: 74 Extra Care apartments in a 3 storey block (where Boningale had proposed car parking for the school & station), 6 bungalows, 30 affordable houses & 28 houses on the land from the boundary of Boningale Homes phase 2A and up to the rail station and north of the school..     The vehicle access is stated in their written report to be both from/into the Boningale Homes phase 2A and also along a widened school drive from/into Shaw Lane. However their drawings and plans show that vehicle access will only be along a widened school drive from/into Shaw Lane and without a road connection to the Boningale development. This aspect needs clarification and an amended application submitted. There are well known traffic congestion problems in Shaw Lane created not just by the School at defined periods of the day and by patients coming to the Medical Practice but also by users of the Station. It appears that the Jessup traffic study on the effects on Shaw Lane was not at the time when the school children were being brought to/from school & not always when the Surgery was open.
The Jessup proposal seems to be for both foul and surface water drainage pipes to be run down the school drive & connected to the joint system single pipe in Shaw Lane which flows towards Station Rd & the High St causing additional loading on the existing system and increasing the risk of flooding. (Previous Boningale Homes proposals led drainage away to the south of the site away from village)
The Committee of the Civic Society has reviewed the Jessup proposal and has objected on the grounds of the severe adverse effect of vehicle traffic on Shaw Lane and the adverse effect of the site drainage being connected into Shaw Lane. Also loss of expected additional parking.
PLEASE SEE PLANNING APPLICATION No. 17/03774/FUL on the Planning website of Shropshire Council and if there is an extension of time please make your views known.
If you object please state “I object...” as adverse comments may not be taken as an objection.
If you object , then say so now or it will happen by default.
No point complaining afterwards!
